AZUL – Board Game Azul is a strategic board game in which players take on the role of artists decorating the walls of the Royal Palace of Évora in Portugal with colorful ceramic tiles.
The game draws inspiration from the history of Portuguese decorative tiles known as azulejos, which were introduced to the Iberian Peninsula by the Moors. During a visit to the Alhambra Palace in southern Spain, King Manuel I of Portugal was so captivated by the beautiful Moorish tiles that he ordered his own palace in Portugal to be decorated in a similar style.
In Azul, players take turns selecting colored tiles from the available supply and arranging them on their player boards. At the end of each round, they score points based on their tile placement. Additional points are awarded for creating specific patterns and completing sets, while unused tiles reduce their score.
Victory requires careful planning, skillful tile selection, and effective pattern building. The player with the highest score at the end of the game wins.
